May 17, 2020 · A little more research the standard boot loader on the Arduino Nano (IDE 1.6.4) does not support the watchdog interrupt. I don’t no why but it dosen’t. A little more googling I saw that there is another bootloader I can use called Optiboot. Optiboot Github Link. This bootloader offered the ability to use the watchdog in the way I wanted to.

I am attempting to flash the bootloader on a new Ender 3. I tried to follow the TH3D Uniform bootloader instructions on flashing it with an Arduino but I kept receiving stk_500 errors. I have an Atmel Dragon programmer so I took the avrdude command that the Arduino IDE generated, changed the programmer type and tried to flash it. Then, run the “Burn Bootloader” command from the Tools menu. This configures the fuse bits of the microcontroller so it runs at 8 MHz. Note that the fuse bits keep their value until you explicitly change them, so you’ll only need to do this step once for each microcontroller.
